CEDAR BREAKS GEOLOGY

July 22 @ 9:00 am - 4:00 pm

$65

Just north of Zion National Park, Cedar Breaks National Monument encompasses part of the western escarpment of the Colorado Plateau at the very top of the “Grand Staircase”.   Designed to complement the Cedar Breaks ranger walks and include the broader geologic context of the Monument, the class will tour some of the geologic features on the Markagunt Plateau beyond the Monument boundaries, including the ash-flow tuffs on 11,300-foot Brian Head Peak, young volcanoes and lava flows, Navajo Lake (a natural lake in a lava-dammed basin), and Mammoth Cave, one of the largest accessible lava tubes in Utah.  Bring jackets, flashlight, and shoes you won’t mind getting wet and muddy, and be prepared for mountain weather.  There will be short hikes with some rock scrambling.

Limited to 10 participants.

FEE: $65

MINIMUM ENROLLMENT: 3 by Tues, July 18 @ 12 noon or class will cancel. If you’re reading this past the minimum enrollment date it means the class is a go and you can still sign up by calling 435 772 3264.
