POETRY IN THE PARK

This exciting program, now in its EIGHTH year, is made possible by a partnership between Utah State Poetry Society, Zion Natural History Association, and Zion Canyon Field Institute. It is partially funded by grants from the Utah State Division of Arts and Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Join us for a daylong workshop “Metaphors Everywhere” taught by Colorado Western Slope Poet Laureate, Rosemerry Wahtola – Trommer.

SCHEDULE

FRIDAY-March 3, 2017

8:45-9:00 am Finalize Registration, Mix and Mingle

9:00-10:45 am

Workshop I––Metaphors Everywhere Rosemerry will lead participants in an exploration of metaphor and the ways it serves the poem and the poet with writing exercises to help participants use metaphors to charge their poems and re-see themselves and the world.

11 am-noon (Optional) Nature Walk with ZCFI Naturalist Michael Plyler as our guide. We’ll explore the Grotto’s handicap accessible path to view the wonders of this beautiful area along the Virgin River. For those not wishing to take the Nature Walk, they can use this time to write poetry and remain in the Zion Park Lodge.

Noon-1pm LUNCH-Bring a sack lunch or enjoy eating at Zion Park Lodge’s Redrock Grill, visiting and individual writing time.

1:00-4:00pm Workshop II –Exploring Metaphors Rosemerry will guide participants in how to use this new harvest of metaphors in our practice. Don’t miss this whole day of play, thrilling in the writing connections between the natural world around us and the landscapes inside us.

REGISTER NOW-fees are $50.00 for this workshop which includes class materials, a nature walk in Zion Park, free park pass, and snacks. Bring your own picnic lunch.

Thursday night March 2nd, 2017 FREE lecture in Springdale’s Canyon Community Center at 7 pm with our visiting poet Rosemerry Wahtola-Trommer. Bring a poem to share. Hosted by Z-Arts. FEE: US $50.00 NO DISCOUNTS; BE SURE TO REGISTER EARLY SO THAT YOU MAY RECEIVE YOUR FREE PARK ENTRY PASS IN A TIMELY MANNER. FEB 24 AT THE LATEST. ALSO, ADD 2O MINUTES MINIMUM TO DRIVE COMING FROM THE DIRECTION OF HURRICANE DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION.
