ZION CANYON FIELD INSTITUTE
2014 LOOKS TO BE A GREAT YEAR FOR ZION CANYON FIELD INSTITUTE
ATTEND ONE OF THE SPECTACULAR CLASSES PLANNED
Zion Canyon Field Institute is offering 55 scheduled classes in 2014. There are three new classes; Zion Canyon’s Cottonwood Trees and the CCC, High Country Mammals, and Crepuscular Mammals. We have also fine-tuned our Narrows’ offerings to Wednesdays only. We did this because Wednesday is one of the slowest days of visitation in the Park.
We are once again offering Great Basin National Park Exploratory that was offered for the first time last year. This class was a big hit with all the first time attendees. Here’s a quote from one of the participants, “Thank you for such a fabulous trip! I think Great Basin is my new favorite park! We had a 10 day roadtrip and everyone in my family thought the highlight of the trip was the time spent with you, Ben and Walt on our hikes.”
Again this year the Fern and J.L. Crawford Lecture Series is a collaboration with the Division of Resource Management in Zion and is made possible by a generous grant from the National Park Foundation. As always these lectures are free and open to the public, and occur at the Canyon Community Center (126 Lion Blvd) in Springdale. All lectures start @ 7:30 pm. The following lectures are already scheduled with more to come.
January 17
Dr. Alan Titus – All the Bells and Whistles: Late Cretaceous Horned Dinosaurs
February 13
Lori Rome – Mountain Lions on the Colorado Plateau
April 17
Gary Oye – America’s Wilderness:Celebrating 50 Years of Conservation
So pick a class or a free lecture and join us. If your visit to Zion does not coincide with a scheduled class please inquire about our “Custom Explore Zion” program. Enjoy a half day or full day guided activity with one of our knowledgeable naturalist/guides. Call 435-772-3264 or email ZCFI director Michael Plyler at [email protected]. We hope to take you hiking in our classroom soon.
