POETRY IN THE PARK

This exciting program, now in its NINTH year, is made possible by a partnership between Utah State Poetry Society, Zion Natural History Association, and Zion Canyon Field Institute. It is partially funded by grants from the Utah State Division of Arts and Museums, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

FEE  ADULTS $55.00 register online below or send check to ZNPF, Zion National Park, Springdale, UT 84767; please write PIP 2018 in memo of check. Reduced Fee for College and High School students $20 each.

Join us for a daylong workshop “Let Nature Nurture Your Writing” taught by award-winning author/poet,  Jim Barton, currently President of National Federation of State Poetry Societies.

SCHEDULE

FRIDAY-March 2, 2018 at Zion Park Lodge  1 Zion Canyon Scenic Dr, Springdale, UT from 9 am to 4 pm

8:45-9:00 am Finalize Registration, Mix and Mingle at Conference Room in Zion Park Lodge.

9-10:45 Workshop Part I-How Nature can Nurture our Writing- the process, gathering ideas, and instructions for the nature walk-and lunch time writing.

11 am-noon (Optional) Nature Walk with ZCFI Naturalist. We’ll explore the Grotto’s handicap accessible path to view the wonders of this beautiful area along the Virgin River. For those not wishing to take the Nature Walk, they can use this time to write poetry and remain in the Zion Park Lodge.

Noon-1pm LUNCH-Bring a sack lunch or enjoy eating at Zion Park Lodge’s Redrock Grill, visiting and individual writing time.

1-2:45  pm Workshop Part II-how to formulate inspiration into poetic form, discuss free verse, and other forms, give time for students to write and edit their ideas.

3-4 pm Sharing Circle-share poems written.

Thursday night March 1st, 2018, FREE Z-Arts Poetry Reading at  Springdale’s Canyon Community Center at 7 pm.  Optional overnight lodging available in nearby Springdale.

FEE: US $55.00 NO DISCOUNTS; BE SURE TO REGISTER EARLY SO THAT YOU MAY RECEIVE YOUR FREE PARK ENTRY PASS IN A TIMELY MANNER. REGISTRATION DEADLINE FEB 15TH. ALSO, ADD 30 MINUTES MINIMUM TO DRIVE COMING FROM THE DIRECTION OF HURRICANE DUE TO ROAD CONSTRUCTION.
